More about this project

This interactive website provides information on where and how financial incentives have been used in Chicago over the past 10 years and advocates for changes to root programs and processes in equity.

DataMade worked with the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) with support from the Chicago Community Trust to build an interactive visualization that allows users to browse US Census Tracts, Wards and Community Areas and compare what areas have greater economic disadvantage and where funding has gone from Chicago incentive programs.

In addition to total investment, the map shows investment from:

  • Tax Increment Financing (TIF)
  • Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF)
  • Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF)
  • Property Tax Abatements (PTA)
  • New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC)
  • Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)
